  • KEL SPENCER’S WEEKLY THOUGHTS (7/13-7/19)

Wud up, I post my weekly thoughts. It’s my viewpoint on things and people seem to dig it so I’m gonna keep ‘em coming. I hope you don’t mind…

    State Trooper… What If...

How many times have you been driving on a Highway and you hit that brake because you see that state trooper sitting over there with that nasty khaki hat and that nasty brim and that hater-gun just clocking everyone’s speed? It’s a relief to pass by and not get pulled over. But we can’t help but think about “What If.” What if I got pulled over. What if I got a ticket. It’s the state troopers of life that we should pay attention to. It’s the warnings on the side of the road that don’t hurt us directly that we should pay attention to. It’s the warnings on the side of the road that hurt others directly that we should pay attention to. Billy Mays, Steve McNair, Michael Jackson, Ed McMahon, Farrah Faucet, Arturo Gatti, and the countless others who don’t receive multi-media attention… should all serve as State Troopers. They should remind us of how we need to slow down and appreciate certain things more. They should remind us of how we need to slow down and handle things better like, our relationship with God & others, our health, our finances, our plans & goals, our careers, our character & integrity.

What if you went to day? Would all of that be in order? Or would you get a ticket?

  • KEL SPENCER’S WEEKLY THOUGHTS (6/29-7/5)

Wud up, I post my weekly thoughts (Except for last week, I took a lil break : /). It’s my viewpoint on things and people seem to dig it so I’m gonna keep ‘em coming. I hope you don’t mind…

    Chaos VS Order

I went to one of my boy’s crib and this joker had the craziest backyard. With the weeds, and oversized bushes and tall grass, his backyard looked like Mumbai (No offense). I asked why he didn’t get some sheers, or a lawn mower, or a cutlass or something and get it poppin back there. He kinda just shrugged it off and went about his business. It made me look at the fact that I was no different. Although my backyard may not look like that, there may be areas of my life that I shrug off and pay now attention to and let run wild…

Things grow and take on a life of their own. When we refuse to put the work in to maintain order, these things continue to grow. This law applies for our finances, our strained relationships, even our own hair. It’s up to us to keep these things in order otherwise they’ll grow into whatever they grow into. Where there is no order there is chaos.

Is there a part of your life that you’ve been shrugging and not applying the right order to? If so, it grows closer and closer to chaos each time you ignore it. Just an FYI.

  • KEL SPENCER’S WEEKLY THOUGHTS (6/1-6/7)

Wud up, I post my weekly thoughts. It’s my viewpoint on things and people seem to dig it so I’m gonna keep ‘em coming. I hope you don’t mind…

    Decisions (Part 1 of 2)

De-cisions: The core "cision" comes from the root of "cisor" or "cissor" meaning to cut. (ie incision, scissor, etc...) The word decision is not so much the act of making a choice, it's the act of cutting off options. When you're faced with a decision you obviously have more than one option. If you're at a fork in the road you can decide to A-go right, B-go left, C-go back home or D-sit right there and do nothing. A simple "2 fork" road appears to give 2 options but really gives more than that. Making a decision to go left is cutting off the options to go right, go back home, or just sit there. In decision-making, we need to (1) be mindful of which options are righteous and which options God approves of (2) which options are life changing and irreversible and (3) which options are just plain ole STUPID. The unrighteous, irreversible, stupid decisions obviously should be cut a way first.

But the most important task in climbing the mountain of decision-making is finality. Finality is (A) cutting away the wrong options and then (B) cutting of the possibility of that decision being a problem in the future. You don't want to be challenged, tempted or in war with the same decisions or same problems over and over. Choose the righteous way and cut the heads off of the unrighteous choices.

Whether you’re a Christian or not, you’ve all heard the following “As the Philistine (Goliath) moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him. Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead... After he killed him, he cut off his head with the sword.

The story of David and Goliath holds so much symbolism. (In fact, next week's bread will be on that story alone.) The one key symbol is that after David killed Goliath and knew he was dead, he cut his head off as well. The cutting off of his head represents (1) triumph of the righteous over the unrighteous and (2) The finality of this battle. The decision to make the incision with his sword was scriptural and symbolic precision, hmmm that rhymed.

Simple and plain... Whether it's a decision about a new job, old relationship, finances, new business venture, whatever... Pick what's righteous, cut of what's unrighteous and then cut the head off of the possibility of having to deal with that crossroad again.

Get it? Got it? Good… We’ll get into this a little deeper next week…

  • KEL SPENCER’S WEEKLY THOUGHTS (5/25-5/31)

Wud up, I post my weekly thoughts. It’s my viewpoint on things and people seem to dig it so I’m gonna keep ‘em coming. I hope you don’t mind…

    Your Ghost…

Ok, so I'm in the crib watching old episodes of Saturday Night Live on Comedy Central. Lindsay Lohan hosted one episode in which her "ghost of the future" appeared to her. It was one of the female comediennes on the show dressed exactly like Lindsay but her face, hair and voice just seemed like it went through the ringer. They proceeded to joke about the fact that, this is how Lindsay would look in the future based on all of the partying, drinking, stress, bad marriage choices, etc... that she was destined to make. Though this was a comedy sketch I got a revelation from it, thinking... "What if the future 'ME' appeared to me. What would he have to say? Would I be pleased with that person? What if the 'One year from now ME' appeared... What if the 'Five years from now ME' appeared... What about the 'Twenty years from now ME'..."

I began thinking about the fact that I am indeed on a path. My path is shaped by the choices I make. I choose what to eat, who to associate with, if/ when to exercise, what to read, how to manage my finances, even where I go. All of these things have an influence on us. Each choice we make has something to do with our present and ultimately our future.

So I ask you… Based on what you eat, and how often you work out, and how you spend your time, and who you’re in relationship with, and what you do with your finances and Who you pray to… If your ghost of the future appeared to you today, what would he/she look like?

    Hmmm….

  • KEL SPENCER’S WEEKLY THOUGHTS (5/18-5/24)

Wud up, I post my weekly thoughts. It’s my viewpoint on things and people seem to dig it so I’m gonna keep ‘em coming. I hope you don’t mind…

    The Dark

I walked into my God-Daughter’s room because she was crying. She explained to me that her mom usually leaves the night light on so that the Doodoo people (lol) don’t get her. I put the night light on, and as cute as this seems for a child, it can even create nightmares for adults all because of a little word called “PERCEPTION.”

Your perception of something is how you see it, or how you view it. Based on the way you see it, your perception will then create emotions. Too many people will then make a decision based on those emotions, even if their perception is All Wrong. My God-Daughter looks at the dark as a bad and evil thing. I look at the dark as just the dark. A dark room to me, and a dark room to her are both the same exact thing but our perceptions of it, is what makes the difference. My perception doesn’t create any emotions of fear, or anxiety. Her perception of it does create these things. Therefore, I will make a decision in the dark that is rooted in good sound judgment and wisdom. She will make a decision in the dark based on fear, fright, and desperation.

Too many times we say “Well, why do I FEEL like this?” And because we FEEL  a certain way, we justify the silly choice we’re about to make. Because we feel like a monster’s coming our way in the dark, we’ll throw the lamp at it, and make an even bigger mess. Feelings will come and be very real even if your perception is the wrong perception. Rather than making a choice based on the feelings you have, you need to check your perception and see if you’re looking at the Dark for what it really is, or are you buying into the Boogy Man/ Doodoo People foolishness?

Look at the situation(s) that you are going through RIGHT NOW. Look at the goose bumps, or the nervousness, or the heart racing, or the butterflies, or the sweaty palms that happen. Is all of that because you are really looking at the situation in Truth for what it really is? Or are you buying into the deception? Perception is key. One day my God-Daughter will perceive the dark for what it really is but in the mean time she’ll make childlike choices about it, because of here current perception. Are you making any childlike choices?

Print this out and put it on your fridge, in your locker, or on your mirror and use it as a way to check point where you are. Believe me, I’m doing the same.
